This event marks the kickoff of the new CAAI Faculty Series, a student-focused program designed to connect Booth students with leading faculty in Applied AI. The series will explore how artificial intelligence is shaping research, teaching, and practice across disciplines. In this opening session, Sanjog Misra, CAAI Faculty Director, will moderate a conversation with Kawin Ethayarajh and Suproteem Sarkar, the newest faculty members in the Applied AI concentration. Together, they’ll discuss their research and perspectives on how applied AI is evolving across disciplines and what it means for students today. How is artificial intelligence going to change social science? How is social science going to change how AI is used? This two-day cross-disciplinary event will explore topics like:

• How AI can enable the use of new types of data in social science applications (e.g., text or images)
• Algorithms for solving problems or enhance decision-making in different economically relevant applications (e.g., hiring, lending, medicine, education, criminal justice)
• Understanding how to help humans use algorithmic decision-aids as effectively as possible, or different approaches to designing and deploying these tools fairly and ethically.

Take part in an engaging dialogue and help generate insights into innovative methodologies, novel datasets, and emerging technologies that can reshape our understanding of the world and push the boundaries of knowledge across disciplines and fields, including experts from economics, sociology, law, behavioral sciences, artificial intelligence, and more.
