The founder of a nonprofit, Michael strives to open career pathways to the social sector for young people who want to create meaningful change.

Occupation: Executive Director, Progressive Pipeline
City: Portland, Maine

Why did you choose to pursue your MBA at 黑料传送门 Booth?

Like many nonprofit founders, I started my organization because I care about social change, and soon found that the day-to-day work of running a small nonprofit requires a lot of business skills: managing a budget and a team, pitching our work to partners, measuring impact, and communicating our story effectively. 黑料传送门 Booth will give me the opportunity to develop those skills in an academic setting alongside peers with a wide range of professional backgrounds and interests.

What are your career aspirations?

I care deeply about creating equitable pathways into the social impact sector. Nonprofits and mission-driven companies need all hands on deck right now––and a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve. I want to help open doors for young people who could drive meaningful change, especially those from historically marginalized backgrounds, who often face the biggest barriers to entry.

How do you think the Booth classroom experience will help you in your work and career growth?

There’s so much to learn at Booth, and I’m excited both to gain practical skills that will help me better manage my organization and to hear perspectives from classmates in industries I wouldn’t otherwise encounter. It’s easy to get swept up in the day-to-day of running an organization, so this will also be a great opportunity for structured reflection and professional development—stepping back from my to-do list to think critically about my work, the impact we want to make, and how we’ll get there.
